Trailhead:

Daniels Summit OHV Loop is 45 miles of riding in the Uinta National Forest. Our ride took approximately 6 hours at 8 mph. This is a full-day ride that will take you west of Daniels Summit Lodge toward Wallsburg. The trail winds itself through quaking aspen, conifers and scrub oak in a loop. The trailhead is about 20 minutes outside Heber City off the main highway starting from the Daniels Summit Lodge. Rocky at points but great views.

Nearby Heber is a good place to stock up on fuel and supplies before heading up the canyon. Daniels Summit serves as a perfect base camp for your adventure offering lodging, dining, a general store and rentals

Trailhead:

Trout Creek to Currant Creek(or if you prefer: Strawberry Reservoir to Currant Creek Reservoir)

Access: Take I-80 north to its intersection with US 40 at Silver Creek Junction. Go south on US 40 through Heber and on south up Daniel’s Canyon. At Daniel’s summit the road turns to the easterly direction. It is six miles from Daniel’s Summit Lodge on the right side of US 40 to the Strawberry Reservoir turnoff to Strawberry Bay. Don’t turn there. Go an additional three and one half miles to the east where you will find a small sign on the road that reads “Trout Creek” Turn left onto an improved dirt road (FR 084). A USFS kiosk with a sign is just one tenth of a mile to the north. That is the trailhead. The road (FR 084) may be a bit difficult to see because you will be passing a hill on the left of US 40. If you slow down you are likely to see it.

Trailhead: The trailhead offers no rest rooms. If you like to fish and ride you could certainly take advantage of that opportunity just across the Street at Strawberry Reservoir. There are rest rooms available at several of the turnoffs on the lake side of US 40. There are many dispersed camping areas along this road. The road itself is in pretty good shape, for an ATV permitted route. This area has been used for many years for deer and elk hunters. There are many places you could pull over and unload your machines, even as far up as a mile or so after you enter the mouth of the canyon.

GPS coordinates at the trail head are: N40 13.897 W111 07.255

Trail: The trail climbs up Trout Creek canyon to Trout Creek ridge in just 4.5 miles with a gain in elevation from 7717 to 9422 feet. There were a couple spots on the northern sides of the hills where snow had covered the trail in the late September storm that we enjoyed in 2002. The snow had been packed but not yet melted in the brisk fall days. There are several trails that intersect with this route that go off to the east. We elected not to take any of them on this trip, but had we done so we would have increased our distance and riding time accordingly. There is probably an additional 20 miles of trail out there once you take them in and back out on the same route. You can essentially follow FR 084 on north to Currant Creek reservoir. There are a few places where it may be confusing. At the top of Race Track Creek canyon the beaten path seems to head north but the markers are to the east down what looks like a less traveled route. In fact, the less traveled route is the correct route. Race Track Creek offers a few rocks in the road, but is still a very pleasant route. Another intersection is found at N40 19.608 W111 04.923, again going to the northeast will take you to the lake. If you hold to the north you will find a delightful route (FR 192) that winds through the trees and forest. It is marked on the USFS Interagency Travel Map as an ATV route, but that limitation has not been observed by the hunters with their 4×4 trucks. There was one place where the ruts from the trucks would have swallowed an ATV, but for a narrow route to the left. That trail goes on over to an intersection with the Chicken Creek trail. When we got to Currant Creek Reservoir we stopped and fished for a few minutes and having no luck we decided to head back and find a fun trail. There are other trails in this area that will also be enjoyable.

Cautions: As always, on trails that accommodate both ATVs and SUVs take special caution at blind corners and never ride two abreast. If out riding during the elk or deer hunt it is recommended that you wear hunter orange, not only to be in style with everyone else, but to permit you to be clearly distinguished from the game animals.

Difficulty: Beginner trail. Very few rough spots and puddles. Only one place where you cross a streamlet. Not steep. Very beautiful.

Eureka is a great place close to the Wasatch Front. If you live in Northern Utah and want a ride, on a Saturday or Sunday, its really easy to get to Eureka and go for a ride. An old mining district there are trails going everywhere. There is plenty of parking available for even the biggest rigs at the city park North of main street. Just look for the “City Park” signs. There are several places to eat and get fuel.

This loop is a combination of a few fast dirt roads and some really slow trails through the pines. It’s a generally smooth trail but as you approach the highest elevations the road is washed out with some deep ruts. Nothing you can’t handle, just take it slow in the rough spots. There is one gate on the North end. Just go through it and leave it like you find it. Closed it it was closed. Open if it was open.

Trailhead:

Started at the OHV parking area and Prospector Trail Kiosk located on HWY 36 just on the south end of the town of Vernon at the Intersection of HWY 36 and Benmore Rd. We headed south past Vernon Reservoir and ended at another Prospector Trail system Kiosk in the Cherry Creek area within view of the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. It will take you all day to explore this area and it is well worth the trip. We covered over 65 miles. The trails follow well-maintained gravel roads so you can expect smooth, easy sailing for the entire trip.

Trailhead Location:

Trailhead GPS:

Trail Description: Just over 20 miles from Hyrum, Strawberry Valley Trail heads northeast into a shallow canyon. A relatively easy road follows a creek and travels through scenic ranchland of Strawberry Valley. The trail enters Lodgepole Canyon and then crosses into Cottonwood Canyon before finally exiting onto the paved road to Laketown. Shortly after joining the paved road, the trail passes to the left of the old town site of Round Valley (and the walking track out to the old cemetery) as it travels through attractive, rolling ranchland.

Bountiful “B” The Bountiful Ridge or Skyline Drive ATV trail is a great ride that’s close to home (if you live along the Wasatch Front). The trail offers some incredible views of the Great Salt Lake and some great mountain scenery and wildlife. The trail also connects with some of the trails up Farmington Canyon which makes it a longer trail system. The trail is fairly easy as long as you stay on Skyline Drive, but there are some difficult areas as you venture off the main road. It can get dusty in the Summer if it hasn’t rained in a while so be prepared.

Trailhead Location: On Eagle Ridge Drive just past the Bountiful “B” on the mountain

Trailhead GPS: 40°53’44.52″N 111°50’41.63″W

Trail Mileage: 60 Miles +/-

Riding Difficulty: Moderate with a few very difficult areas if you get off the main road

Located near Green River, Utah in the San Rafael Swell, this dreamy sand wash trail weaves through a narrow canyon. It is moderately difficult, so be prepared for some rugged terrain. Make sure to keep an eye out for the beautiful pictographs that decorate the canyon walls. It is open year round but aim for spring or fall to get the best ride.

Directions To Trail Head:
The Hardware Ranch Road is located approx 32.8 miles up Logan canyon from Logan Utah and 7.2 miles from Garden City Utah. When you turn off on this road you will be traveling south. Drive 1.5 miles to the staging area and the trail head.

About 1.5 miles down the Hardware Ranch Road in Logan Canyon you’ll come to a very large staging area. The staging area for the Hodges Canyon ATV trail, but it’s also a good place to stage and access several other ATV trails on the north end of the Hardware Ranch Road.

This trail starts off in a large sage brush valley with not much in the way of trees. After you crest the first little hill you began to descend into a canyon. The trail runs down into a narrow valley and along a small stream that you will have to cross several times. There were a few short hills with large rocks, and fallen trees to maneuver around and over, however this is not a difficult trail. Once in the canyon you are surrounded by thick Pines and Aspen forest. The trail is only approx 4 miles long, at the end you will come to a gate that is marked “No Trespassing” on one sign, the other sign says “keep gate closed”. Being that this fence line was not clearly marked we decided to turn around and head back to the staging area. If anyone has any information on whether or not you can access this part on the trail we would like to hear from you.

Although the whole canyon in this area is beautiful, This is one of the prettiest trails I have been on. I am a fan of thick Aspen trees and they line both sides of this trail. The trail offers fun for all, nice flat scenic trail, stream crossings, with a few challenging sections. This is an all around great trail for everyone.

Trailhead:

Murdock Basin is off of the Mirror Lake Highway Road in the Uinta National Foresteast out of Kamas. It is 70 miles from the Salt Lake Valley. To get there from the Salt Lake Valley, Take I-80 east, up Parleys Canyon. At the Silver Creek Junction take Highway 40 south. At the Keetly Junction (second Exit) go east on Highway 248 to Kamas. At the stop light in Kamas turn left on Main Street. Turn right at the next stop light on Center Street (Highway 150). Travel east on Highway 150 for 21 miles. You will see the Murdock Basin Turn off to the right. The road is paved for the first 200 yards across the bridge over the Provo River. The road then turns to dirt. It is about 1.5 miles to the trail head parking. Before the trail head there is a fork to the left that goes to Broadhead Meadows. There is a restroom and parking at the trailhead.

There are two main riding areas in Murdock Basin, the Murdock Road east of the trailhead and the Broadhead Meadows area. These are both “ROCKY”.

East from the trailhead on the Murdock Road you have a group of lakes with fish in them, which you can drive your ATV to within a few 100 feet of them. There are also some dead end roads and two loop trails. There are two ATV width trails River Run and Drop Off. The road is rocky and offers beautiful vistas and lakes. The last lake on the road has water lilies in it. The road at the very end turns into the River Run trail and loops around and connects at about the Marshall Lake Turn off. The other loop trail Drop Off comes out at the trailhead; it is steep and is a rock crawlers dream.

There is also a road down to the Duchesne River, where there is a beautiful waterfall and the start of the Duchesne Tunnel. You can also fish the Duchesne River. This road is also very rocky.

The turn off to the Broadhead Meadows which has two loop trails that are very rocky. One is called Broadhead Loop and the other is Ritter Loop below.

There is also a road that connects to Highway 150 just below Trial Lake. On the Ritter Loop you will go past Lost Lake which has fish in it.

This trail also goes by some old saw mill areas and there are also some very rocky sections. The Broadhead Loop Trail is also very rocky and it is slow rock crawling for miles.
